I'm thinking of getting a dedicated decapping die. I've read good things about the Lee one, especially since you can get both Lee and aftermarket pins. Common opinion seems to be that the pins are more durable than in resizing dies. OTOH, the online reviews (yeah, I know, right?!) also say that this die isn't good for cals over 338, and I have a 9.3x62 which is even porkier. Mind you, it would be used mostly on 30-06, 6.5x55 and 243s.

Do any of you use dedicated D-C dies? Any thoughts?
 
I use the cheap lee die. Possibly doesn't work for the lapua sized cases??

Widest cases unused mine in would be the WSM cases. It works great for all my cases, except for the smallest of my cartridges with tiny flash holes.

The Lee universal decapping die works great, something I wouldn’t want to be without now that I’ve had it for a couple years.

It should work just fine on 9.3x62, aside from the case mouths diameter it’s just a 30-06 case. Works in 45-70 as already stated, once I get some 9.3 dies I’ll test it. Hopefully on the weekend.
 
I have always used the Lee decapping die and as I recall the only cases that were too big for it were some .378 Weatherby Magnum empties that I found at the range. I know I did some .458 Winchester mag cases with no issue.

Except for a few ultra large cases it should work for just about any common rounds.

I use the dedicated Lee decapping die.
 
I have Lee recapping die and both sizes of RCBS. I actually like the Lee one a little better for big cases. Yesterday I decapped more than 300 big cases, .450-400 3" Nitro Express with the Lee die. Not one problem.
 
I use it too.

Thousands and thousands of rounds decapped.

Including several hundred live primer pull downs.

Works great.

Dont love the “adjustment” of the pin assembly but the lock ring has a rubber gasket imbedded that makes up and down adjustment of the die body a snap. I never adjust it now though.

I just have it set ling enough to decap my longest cases and simply dont press the shorties as far.

Works great for me.
 
YUP...another vote for the lowly LEE universal die !!! One of the very first "extra" things I bought when I got my Lyman turret kit in the early 80's ! I also have broken a few pins over the years...that'll happen when you get careless or complacent like I did..lol
Rifles and pistols alike, used it for everything I've ever loaded for when the circumstances were right. Fast forward to present day, it's still in use when I want to pre-prep a bunch of different fired brass. GREAT investment for a few bucks !
 
Another vote for the Lee decapper. The pin is definitely stronger than the usual pin in a sizing die. I bought mine after I bent a couple pins decapping .223 brass with crimped primers in the regular sizing die. Never bent a pin in the decapping die.

I have a Lee universal decapping die. works very well until you try decapping a case with a rock in it or if you try decapping Berdan primed case.
I just picked up a RCBS decapping die, haven't used it yet. my Lee die is too small for 338 Lapua.
 
I need to get me one of these as it would be nice to push the primers out without resizing so I can wet tumble the brass and not worry about scratching up the resizing dies
 
Get the Lee.
People often overlook Lee because they're more inexpensive than other options so it's automatically assumed they're not as good but as time goes on I find myself buying only Lee dies except for fringe cases. They are well made, well thought out, and have features I miss if I use anything else. I've had issues with all of the other big 4 (RCBS, Lyman, Redding) although Redding definitely makes the "nicest" ones out of those. I'll still buy Redding gear but Lyman and especially RCBS are dead to me, they're not what they used to be.
