I have two pieces of brass that I prepped mistakenly; I'd meant to throw them out as the loads that were shot out of them were far too hot (a different story).

Unfortunately I've primed them and as expected the primers are too loose.

I'd like to dispose of this brass. What is the best way to safely deprime it it so that I can dispose of it? The primers are pretty loose so I was guessing that slowly decapping with a decapping die (if I had one) might be the way to do it. I do have a hand held Harvey deprimer but I'm guessing that might be too dangerous?

Just wear safety glasses, hearing protection and go slowly decapping. I've decapped hundreds of live primers and never had one go off with a Lee universal decapping die. Just be careful, go slow and don't put your head over it and look into it when you're doing it. I've even successfully reused primers after pulling them.

decapping die, even your resizing die with decapping rod, its not going to go off, but as said before dont go sticking your face into it to look, done 100s for various reasons, never had a problem

Universal decapping dies are nice. As above - never had an issue. Primers take a fair bit of kinetic energy to set off.

So empty case, no powder, no bullet, but good primer that needs to be removed??

Load it in the gun and fire it into the garbage can. If you live in an apartment, soak the brass/primers in penetrating oil to neutralize the primer.

Why waste a perfectly good primer.

Eyes/Ears and go slow, nothing will happen.

I would chamber and fire. If you think that's a total waste go an insect safari. That 10" blue flame does a number on a house fly. So I've been told!

Decapping die. Slowly pop it out, catch in hand, reuse. Im too cheap to let a primer go to waste.
That has been my motto for many years too.Although I direct them into rounds earmarked for general use,not into my grizzly bear hunting ammo just in case. That would be the time Murphy's law would catch up to me.

First time I read this on here I figured WTF?
The laddies are just plumb mad doing this crazy chit.
Then one day I pulled up me britches and tried it.
Easy..........just go nice and easy.
Haven't had one ker-boom yet.
Wear eye protection at least.
