Decapping live primers?

Yes, you can decap them with no issues. I would suggest safety glasses, just in case, but you should really be wearing those anyway. If the anvil doesn't fall out you should be able reuse them, but it would be wise to relegate them to plinking or practice ammo only.

I just did about 300 live .40 cases that had the dreaded glock bulge.
No problem what so ever.
Now to figure out how to size out that bulge.
I just ran them through my Hornady LNL with only the sizing/decaper in place.

Lee makes a nice tool to to bulk batches with the glock bulge
OP just run the cases thru your decap die gently. If the anvil doenst fall out, use em again. If you hunt, don't use em for hunting rounds, but i've never had one fail to go off. Never had one go off taking it out either.

X2 on chucking the primers after removal. The only dud I have ever had came from a reused primer.
I bought a bunch of primed brass from Lever in the 70s, It was all Boxer primed and I needed the 7.62x51 brass as it was hard to come by. It was surplused because the primers were defective. I did a bulk buy with two other guys and bought a 5000 round pack in ammo cans. We punched out every one of those primers in a RCBS JR press. The cases were IVI and all the primer pockets were crimped. Not one mishap or pop. One of the guys, took all of the primers as he didn't think there was anything wrong with them. He was selling most of the brass anyway and being super cheap, saved them for other cartridges. He was famous for getting a click when he should have gotten a boom. It really had a bad effect on his shooting.
I firmly believe, if we hadn't punched those primers and just loaded the cases, we wouldn't have had one misfire. Other guys I talked to did just that, one guy was loading for a 1919A6 converted to 7,62x51 and did thousands at a time. Removing them damages them as well as making them inconsistent. Just throw them away.

I try to re-use them....I havent' re-used much but they always go bang. Just for plinking ammo mind you as sooner or later one of them will go click as mentioned.
Get a Lee Bulge Buster and a Lee Factory Crimp Die if you don't already have one.
The Bulge Buster fits onto the Factory Crimp Die.
The Bulge Buster will work on a bunch of different calibers.
