Picked up a Pachymayr Decelerator pad at the Wholesale Sports liquidation for 60% off regular price. Intended for my 7.62x39 Remington 799 and at that price makes the installation feasible. Not worth paying regular price for the pad and having a gunsmith do it which would cost about 1/2 of what I paid for the rifle new.

Not needed for recoil but rather because there's a hard plastic plate covering the buttstock and it slips off my shoulder when shooting off-hand which is annoying.

Some work on the stock and sanding by hand required. Also increases LOP which was a bit short for my liking. :)

It's a Zastava M85 Mini Mauser barreled action in a Remington laminate stock that was marketed as the Model 799 from 2000 to 2006. Has a 5 round hinged floor plate magazine.

The Weaver V3 1-3x20mm scope has surprisingly good clarity and brightness.

Great rifles, I sold a 798 "mini mauser" 22 hornet that I regret. I remember the bluing on it was great and they seemed more "refined " than current Zastavas.

Blueing is pretty good on the 798 and 799 rifles. One glitch along the way with my 799. The extractor broke and since this is a discontinued rifle there was no support from Remington. However, a bit of research revealed that the extractor from a Sako Vixen rifle is an exact fit.

A good rifle for off-hand shooting practice with the availability of inexpensive milsurp ammo.

That's a helpful bit of knowledge and exactly why I love this site.
