Decent affordable scope?

I know this question has probably been asked before, so I appologise. I'm looking at buying my first rifle and think I know what I want. What I don't know is about a scope. Everyone I talk to tells me not to go cheap on the scope, but there must be decent affordable scopes out there. I'll have about $150 to $200 to spend on it. Mostly it will be used for target on a 30-06 or 308, with possibly the occasional hunting trip. Thanks in advance.

There's another way of thinking. Go cheap on the rifle. Or split it down the middle.

Equipment Exchange

You need to apply for access but you can sell and buy everything in there. I got my Elite 3200 in there for $200 shipped

Great scope for the money.

EE = Equipment Exchange further down the front page of CGN here. ;)

Yes for your Price range you'd be far better off going with a Used 3200 Bushnell Elite or ???
....the 150 dollar price ranged Tasco's and low end Bushnells from Wallyworld etc. are Crap if you can avoid them:)

Used is a Better Value for your Bucks;)

3200s are a good scope.
Not all tasco scopes a bad.I have one tasco titan that I have had for some years that works great.Every bit as clear as a 3200,holds zero, and acceptable eye relief.
Ellwood Epps has a couple in thier used optics section.Have a peek.$150

I got a Burris Fullfield II 3-9 for $250 at Russells a few years back. When you're in the real world you can cruise the gunshops for good deals on used scopes. Not so much up here in the boonies.

I too thought like you when I was looking for my first scope and bought something cheaper. Totally regretted it. Save your money and buy something a little better. Bushnell Elite 3200 and Leupold VXII come to mind.
Buy quality = Buy once
Buy cheap = Buy twice and spend more in the long run

Check out the EE forum for some pretty good deals.

Just my 2cents.

there are often lots of used scopes at gunshows, where you could get killer deals on older B&L scopes, Leupolds, old weavers, etc. Especially if it's not pristine cosmetically (scope ring marks) or is an old steel tube. Just make sure the optics are in good shape, and if you're not picky about aesthetics you can get some smokin deals

The 3200 and the Fullfield 11 are both pretty good scopes, but I prefer the FF11. You can generally get one delivered on ebay for under $200 US.
