Been trapping and shooting beaver for 30 plus years cant beat 22 mag with hollow points! dont forget I trap them for the fur, so the hollow point makes one hole and blows up in head.Very little fur damage.Have experimented with the 17 and have found on the bigger beaver the 17 blows up on the beavers hard skull ,this results in alot of lost beaver or alot of follow up shooten. Most of the trappers in my area of NWO have dumped their newly purchased 17 hmr;s and went back to the 22 mag Thanks Abs

stay down wind and when the lil bugger is close enough just butt stroke em... or a 10/22 with stingers will do the job quite nicely... just be warned if you dont finish them with one shot they will crawl back into the den and die, thats why you trap em instead of shoot em supposedly.
this little fella got within 15' of me and my buddy while we were sitting on his damn trying to figure out if we had anything that went good with beaver back at the camp and who was going swimming to retreive it... his lucky day we both wanted to keep our feet dry.
