I have reloaded about 1000 rds of 7.62x54r/.303/8mm and have always cleaned my brass by hand. This has recently been an issue and I don't have that kind of time on my hands anymore :p

Anyone have any suggestions on a decent, cheap tumbler? Nothing fancy, just something that works!

My VOTE is for LYMAN

... I' on my second LYMAN ( Worn out after 30+years ). Customer Service is very, very good ! A good durable product !...... If possible, I would advise you to get a bigger Bowl than you think you'll need, because before long, you will need the BIGGER BOWL !! .... David K..:)

They aren't as cheap as the vibratory tumblers sold for cleaning brass, but I recommend a rotary rock tumbler, such as a Thumler or Lortone. They cost a bit extra, but they are much quieter than a vibratory unit and are built to run for weeks on end. The rubber drum is sealed, so you can even tumble wet if you want to.

The price isn't all that high when you consider that this is something you should only have to buy once.

This is the one I use:

Picked up a Lyman Turbo Pro 1200 for $42 in the States. I agree with David, the customer service is great. I sent an email to Lyman asking if they sold a solid lid for my tumbler, and they sent me one for free, and I received in within a week.
