Decent holster for 1911 Norinco compact 4.25" barrel - Blackhawk CQC Standard?

Looking for an inexpensive holster just to wear at the range. Not interested in IPSC competition type stuff, just something that's easy to wear and gets the job done; something to put the 45 in while reloading mags or walking around. I've seen the Blackhawk CQC standard holster at SFRC's website and it seems ok but not sure if it would work with the compact barrel length. Uncle Mike has some nylon holsters as well. Would appreciate some input on these if anyone has one of them. Thanks.:confused:
 
Blackhawk CQC holsters are unsafe pieces of trash.

Contact rollie100 on this board. He can make you a custom kydex holster for a reasonable price. Quality is excellent and his products will last most shooters a lifetime.

Care to elaborate on what is so unsafe about them?
 
I have a Blackhawk paddle holster for my 45......no problems so far.....bought it at Walmart on the U.S. side , I think it was 25 bucks , and is convertable for paddle or holster.......
 
If your range isn't fussy on holster types you could get a reproduction USGI Holster.
As tanker style shoulder holster or a belt mounted holster your pick.

These guys sell good quality inexpensive classic reproductions.

Well, now that I got called out on it I went to the Blackhawk website and see they make two kinds of CQC holsters; a Serpa CQC:

Sooo, my unsafe comment was directed at the Serpa. Anyone with Google can find out why they are unsafe.

I wasn't aware Blackhawk made a standard (non-unsafe :D) model. So I guess my "piece of trash" comment was directed at the Serpa as well. Though, Blackhawk isn't known for quality. I do like their double stack mag case and have have had good luck with them.
 
The biggest drawback to the serpa design and similar holsters is that in a real world situation it is possible that dirt and debris can get under the release button and prevent you from drawing your firearm. In experience and negligence can lead to your finger ending up on the trigger during drawing. With practice and a little self awareness that is not an issue and is the same for all holsters. People like to parrot things they hear online which leads to saying they are dangerous, when in fact it is the user that was dangerous and not the holster.
 
I cant comment on the serpa but my vote goes to soley canadian kydex, I absolutely love his holsters and will continue to buy them for all my guns that I holster. If you want a custom kydex hes the man to talk too (rollie100) in fact im going to be talking to him.about a 1911 one for me as well
 
Custom Kydex holsters are great for a hip carry holster for a specific firearm. Personally for myself I stick with Serpa as I use a thigh rig (rifle and pistol transitions with a chest rig). So in my instance a thigh rig with blackhawk quick connect will work with any serpa holster and can be switched to a hip rig in seconds is I want to or change out holsters for different firearms. Also the 1911 serpa will fit almost all configurations of 1911 design.
 
Damn, I was hoping to get here earlier so I could be all "ZOMG YOULL SHOOT YOURSELF IN THE FOOT IF IF YOU BUY ONE OF THOSE THEYRE SO UNSAFE", but it looks like someone beat me to it :rolleyes:. I will agree with the earlier statement about debris getting in the mechanism causing it to stick, it seems entirely possible. But, seeing how I don't intend on rolling around in the sandbox with mine on, I don't foresee this issue. Also, I know my ACTS and PROVE, specifically the T=Trigger guard, keep your finger out of it. For us common folk, this holster will never cause issues "in the real world", because as current politics in Canada dictate, we can only "strap up" at the range (or around the house if you'd like). Anyways, to reiterate, I have had no problems with mine which I use for my Girsan.
 
I own a Serpa for my G19. Practiced (empty mag) many times. Never ever heard the trigger click. Same with live fire at the range. I never knew about the Serpa ND issues or dirt issues till I read it here on the forum. Really like the locking click when the gun drops in. Recently bought one more for my incoming 1911. My worry with this is the Serpa will damage the finish ( have holster wear on the Glock from it already) and that the heavier 1911 may tip the butt out and sag. As long as the finger is out of the trigger till you are on target, you will never ND from a Serpa. The dirt part? I don't roll around a lot with a gun strapped to me.

That may be true for us range ninjas, but it is a definite concern for MIL/LE which is why some don't allow Serpa's. All holsters will wear a firearms finish over various periods depending on materials. Friction is a #####.
