I just picked up a Marlin XT-22 and I am looking to put a decent scope on it, what do you guys suggest? I got a cheap Tasco 6-24x50 scope on it (Chinese knock off). Wondering if I should get something better or any scope will do?

Need to know your budget and purpose to make a recomendation. My various rimfires have scopes from 3-9 Weaver to 8-32 Mueller. They all have a purpose, "target aquisition"

"target aquisition"

You rang?

On topic, I have this gun, and I'm not a big scope guy. This is actually the only gun I have with glass one it - every thing else is irons and peeps.

So, I too didn't know what to shop for, and decided to be economical. I walked into Sail, and they had the Tasco, but for some reason the clamshell packaging threw me off. Probably meant nothing, but it kinda rubbed me the wrong way. I ended up with a 40mm Bushnell banner. It was described as adequite. I got it home, and looking at the box it said 'black powder scope' on it. I called them up, and was told that just meant it was built sturdier? Good thing considering the violent recoil of this .22LR rifle...

Anyway, I can't even get it sighted in, and I've left it in the safe ever since. I ran out of adjustment going up, so I guess that means it needs to be shimmed? I knew I should have just stuck with irons and peeps, even though I wanted to scope this one because the factory irons on the Marlin are garbage.

Shouldnt need shims with a factory rifle and barrel, something must be off, ive had the same thing, ended up being a used redfield scope that broke on me and couldnt adjust it one way, check by looking through the barrel on a rest or something so it doesnt move, adjust the scope and see if your point of aim is moving.

Here is a good range of options all suitable for rimfire shooting. These are all setup different from a typical centerfire scope with the parallax set to 50-75 yards rather than 100+ which can make a difference if you demand the most out of a scope.

Cheap - Simmons 22 mag(4x or 3-9) = $50
Better - Bushnell Banner Shotgun(4x) = $75
Decent - Nikon Prostaff Rimfire(4x or 3-9) = $150
Nice - Nikon P22(2-7) = $200
Nice - Leupold Rimfire(2-7) = $250

Nikon Prostaff Target EFR 3-9x40mm ~190$.

But also depends on your intended use.
Purely target? Purely hunting? Half and half?

For a dual purpose hunting/target the above is what I just ordered for my Remington 597 AAC-SD.

No mildots or BDC but it does have AO.

  • Adjustable objective

For a .22 this is the ideal scope IMO, I have two and they are great.
