Decided on a .270, now what brand?

Well here's a vote for a HS Precision PHR in .270. Cheap, they're not -- but the fit, finish, balance and accuracy are there in spades. My HS .270 is the one rifle I'll never sell, and will probably be buried with :p

.270 Win Sako A7

(but you can get it in the wood version).

Since when does the A7 come in a wood version?

If you're looking for wood, don't forget some of these beautiful Laminates.

I realize you have been getting a lot of excellent recommendations for a caliber but don't overlook in your search the 7mm Rem Mag. You can load it for the equivalent of the 270 and when the time comes for something a little more powerful, you can load accordingly.

And if you can put your hands on a used Tikka M65 Deluxe in a caliber suitable to you, grab it. I've bought at least 3 in the last number of years paying from $650 to $800, all in mint condition. They have a DM and you will not find any plastic with these.

Good luck!

Wondering the same thing.

It's a home-made job - bought some scrap leather at the bootmakers, got a leather shoelace, and cut up a nylon/elastic shell carrier from the store.... put 'em together and voila.
