Decided to take the plunge (375 H&H) Now which rifle should I buy? Updated page 92

Is the RSM tang or 3 position?.... Is it MKII?

As I post this I am thinking "let me google that for you".... Sorry....

This one has been around;

NOT "a pig"... but "solid!"

You can't go wrong with the Zastava at its price point..... Will you be getting a nice refined rifle that will turn heads?.... No.....but you will be getting a reliable Crf of appropriate weight that is both functional and accurate.....

I kick myself for selling mine.... Although I do love the rifle I bought with the proceeds....

Should you choose to go with the Zastava, I suggest Tradex as your vendor...... If you want, I would be willing to go down and inspect some samples to help you win the wood lottery..... The hey are 20 minutes from me and accept visits by appointment.... And any time with Tony is time well spent.....

I thought about a Zastava, but after handling a one I kinda got turned off by the feel. I'm sure it shoots quite well, but it just didn't feel right.

so I started this thread with kind of an idea what I was looking for, now I just want to buy them all... Aside from the LOP, is there a reason that I should avoid the Browning X-bolt?
I am seriously tempted by the Vanguard s2, but every time I consider it all I can think of is my amazing accurate, but not very refined Vanguard S1. That rifle is a half MOA rifle with the right factory ammo and much better with good reloads, but the balance is awful and the fit and finish in not the best, has the vanguard s2 really improved as much as everyone claims?

I have had a S2 in .270 Win for a little over a year and quite like it.(not sure how it compares to the S1 though)

I ordered a S2 in .375 last week so will see it soon I hope.

Regards, Kevin

No reason whatsoever to avoid the X-Bolt, it's an excellent rifle, very very accurate, factory bedded, and leaps ahead of the T3 or VS2. If I was to get one in 375, I would want the dura-touch stock as it feels amazing and reduces felt recoil very well. I think they are ugly in wood anyway, although probably my favorite push feed. The few I shoot have fairly tight chambers. This is the logical side of me.

My personal taste for a 375 would be blued steel, nice walnut, controlled feed, but this is the FUDD in me speaking.

No one has mentioned finding a good used BRNO ZKK602 for the gentleman.

Class act walnut and blued steel, great triggers, five in the magazine, wonderful factory sights, integral dovetail scope bases, accurate, and won't beat him up.

There's more, but that is enough for most folks. :)

OP, I have a CZ 550 in .375 H&H and in.416 Rigby. I like the CZ and haven't had any problems with either of them. I use them both here and mostly in Africa. They are solid rifles and can be used as real workhorses day in and day out. The adjustable trigger is a great feature on the CZ as is the folding rear leaf sites. I topped my .375 with a vortex 3-9 Diamondback with a QD mount for follow up shots which makes the rifle very versatile. As mentioned above it ain't light, so the "where" of the hunt should be factored in.

Hoytcannon.... the rifle whisperer.... :)

Ironically I googled Ruger RSM and the second or third site on the list was Angus' article..... good read....

^^Agreed. Guilty of the same thing, but we got off track here. To better answer the OP's question>>>>>in new you are probably looking at a Zastava. In used, with some search maybe a M700, Ruger(alaskan/african) in the new ruger calibers.

My advice would be two things. Firstly try to handle some rifles, decide what you like, then if you encounter a "deal" that sees you buy >>>sight unseen, its not so much a stretch. Secondly, budget in a good quality optic. If that means waiting, it just does.
