Deciding between SIG220(9mm) and CZ SP01

Hi fellow gunnutz, i'm thinking of picking up a 220(9mm) or a SP01. Could members that own either or have own either in the past share some pros,cons and good or bad experiences to help with my decision. They'd be used strictly for target practice/plinking. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I bought a P220 9mm from a board member and I like it...if you wanna shoot it you can to see if you like it. Coudln't tell ya about the CZ though.
 
If you're thinking of using either pistol in competition, bear in mind that the P220 9mm has a 9rnd magazine, not 10 like the CZ.
I owned a P220 9mm "Canadian" model, and found the accuracy to be not quite what I expected for a SIG. I now have a P220 .45ACP and it is exactly what I expected in all departments.
 
mrOOjimbo:that would be great, up for a wednesday nite shoot up at POCO? Work weekends so they are out

No, they won't be for competition, my accuracy isn't the best at the moment:redface:. When the time does come for me to enter competitions, it'll give me another excuse to pick up another toy.:D :dancingbanana:

I already own a P226 in 9mm and .40S&W.(9mm with nitron &.40 in SS finish) They both shoot great,especially with the 9mm. So i guess thats the reasoning behind it, really like Sigs and shoot much much better with 9mm. Checked out the black water model but its pretty much the same with what i already own. With the 220, it has the slightly smaller grip. Also cheaper to feed a 9mm pistol:D, especially with the ammo price hike thats suppose to come.

Although I like Sig better than CZ, I would go for the SP01 if I already had two P226s. The difference between the P226 and P220 is quite marginal. The SP01 is a heavy pistol and in 9mm it will probably have very little recoil. I was toying with the idea of buying one but then decided to get a Hi-Power instead.
 
My first choice was to go for a SP01 but then thought of combining the appreciation for Sigs and 9mm making the end result a 220 9mm. But you guys are right, the difference is marginal and i should go with something different. The more variety the better, right?!The 220 with the lower rounds capacity may become a problem in the future too.
 
I haven't tried the CZ but the Sig is really nice! I have a P220 in 9mm. In less than 2 minutes, I remove the slide, re & re the locking insert and ejector, and I am now ready to shoot 45 ACP. The only non-Sig here is the 45 ACP barrel, which is Bar-Sto. Great pistol and never had any problems.

If you're already looking at the SP01, you might also throw the Tanfoglio line into the mix as option C.

Is the SP01 production legal now?
 
It all depends on what you want out of this gun, how you'll use.

If this is a plinker only, or a collector's item, makes no difference - pick whichever one looks better to you.

If this is intended for competition, even down the road, the SP01 hands down.

I used to be the official CZ geek around here, then I moved away for a while to shoot a Sig, an NP22, more recently a Tanfoglio, and I'm back in the CZ camp with the SP01. What really blew me away is its accuracy (group size). I get better groups with it shooting practice Wolf ammo than shooting factory competition ammo in other guns... Plus the availability of production-legal factory options (hammers, springs, sights, etc, etc).

Yes SP01 is ISPC Production legal....and there are CZ FACTORY err...'MODS' that can be done to keep it produciton legal as well..

There's a hot rodded version offered by CZ themselves, forgot the name.
 
Nice thing about Tanfoglios is you can buy conversion kits for them. I have the "L" model and have ordered a .40cal conversion unit for it. May pick up a ,22LR kit in the future as well.

Looks real nice! How long have you had it? Whats your thoughts on accuracy?

It'd be for plinking for now but will definatly get into IPSC down the road. Have you had any types of problems with the SP01,whether big or small?

edit:Actually read your post on the SP01 just now. So what your saying is it doesn't like certain ammo? And to stay away form using Tangfolio mags with it?

Correct me if i'm wrong, 220 in 9mm are special editions, right? Will it be hard to find 9mm mags and parts for it down the line because its actually chambered for .45ACP?
