Hey guys im deciding on my first 1911 and have been researching/reading forever but looking for help/opinions.
Im not new to handguns just never owned a 1911, looking for quality 1911 to shoot for fun at range. Eventually maybe competing but not for a while.
Id like to keep the budget under $2000 if possible and im ok with used or new.

Here are some options ive looked at considered:
1. Colt combat unit rail gun
2. Dan Wesson specialist
3. STI Duty One 4.0
4. STI Edge (may be able to get one in price range)
5. Sig Tac Ops or Max
6. Springfield TRP operator (cant seem to find in Canada though)
7. Kimber TLE/RL II (barely made list with lots of mixed reviews)
8. Custom build.. possibly Rodger Kotanko

Feel free to rank or support any of these, or throw a new one in!
Thanks

Can't go wrong with Dan Wesson, STI Duty 4.0 or 5.0, or Springfield. If you are willing to go to 2K, I'd put those ahead of the Colt, Kimber and Sig.

I have had These STI Spartan 9mm
Smith E Series (Anniversary Model)
Dan Wesson Single Stack Custom 40s&w
Three Colt Gold Cups

They were all great bot the Dan Wesson was my Favorite, followed closely by the Gold Cups.
Have fun 1911's are a blast.

Awesome thanks for all the replies so far you guys are helping!!
Heres a few options from exchange what would you pick or best deal? :
1. Les Baer thunder ranch with burris fast fire - $2200 (2k rounds)
2. STI Duty one 4.0 - $1400 (100 rounds)
3. STI Trojan Hard chrome - $2000
4. Dan Wesson specialist - $2000 (100 rounds )
5. Colt combat unit rail gun - $1950 (never fired)
6. STI edge - ~ $2200

Thanks

I own two Springfields, a Champion and a Trophy Match and used the Champion during my IPSC days. The Trophy Match is like the day I bought it in the late 90s and it was supposed to be my backup but never needed it for that purpose only appreciated the quality and fired some test rounds. The higher end Springfields are stellar quality guns.

Come to think of it I will likely list the TM for sale at a reasonable price in the new year.

Trojans have always been nice shooters, but not seeing the value proposition at close 2300 compared to others on the market at that price. 300 more gets you a Les Baer.

^This

Trojans were extremely good value at $1450 (and even better when they had a sale) but at north of 2K....no

Let me know if you do!

Maybe send an email to ArmsEast to see if they can order you in the Gold Cup?
Ill check thanks!

Did you try I Run Guns ?
Got mine in september.

No i havent tried, ive browsed his sight but wasnt sure how much all the extras would bump up the price. (Shipping, duty etc)

Dan Wesson or Les Baer! IMO those 2 significantly outclass the other choices.

I was wondering if I might ask a question of my own, since you guys know your 1911's, and it didn't seem worth making a new thread over.

I'm looking for something about $1000 and was considering the Ruger SR1911? I've already read up on it, and asked a friend who owns several Rugers, so it seems like a good choice. But there's no harm in getting extra opinions.
