Decision on RF for Precision?

That will be my choice - no need for anything else. Buy once instead of needing upgrade.

If you want a DIY project rifle, the Scorpio 332A has really surprised and impressed me. QC is all over the map but we have built up a number and they all shoot really well out to 400yds.

They are also dirt cheap... especially, if you don't count your labour. I run one as my PRS rimfire bolt gun

The 1710ACC COMP was my last rifle (they are almost $4K now after tax!) , I sold it and got a built CZ457/IBI/MDT/Timney from EE parts far cheaper about the same accuracy but more reliable. The fit/finish action quality of the Anschutz is undeniable though, I wish the mags weren't so bad. (basically identical to Savage Mark 2 mags without the back fin)

I still also have a Savage Mark 2 heavy barrel that shoots Center-X to 300m no issue, the tikka to me feels as cheap as my Savage, I'll pass! And those Ruger RPRs are cheap plastic feeling...

If I was starting from a stock rifle I'd go with the CZ457 Pro Varmint or XRS and add a YoDave trigger.

I would go with a cz457 mtr in the XRS chassis. Throw a arken ep5 on top with the optional rings and level kit along with a area 419 bolt knob and you'll be good to go. I have that setup with the 16" barrel and it has been an awesome rifle out to 400 yards. Zero it at 50 yards, I tried 100 when I first got it but always found my Zero was slightly off the next range trip assuming due to changes in environmentals. Since I switched to 50 It hasn't moved.

T1X seems to be a good sleeper rifle. Everyone seems to head nod that they are great. I have not seen many threads complaining about them. They are starting to pop up on the my rifle shoots 1/2 inch at 50 all day long also.

New to the hobby,

Looking to get a nice precision rifle for long range precision shooting but i don't want to break the bank.
Currently selling my 10/22 and want to upgrade it for...

1. Ruger precision Rifle .22lr
2. CZ 457 .22lr

Is there another affordable choice i should be researching? I'm hearing CZ all day. It's just not as pretty haha.

Opinions?

Cheers,

so, I have a CZ452 Varmant and I picked up a RPR earlier this summer. (the 452 of course is the older model to the 457 but very similar)

I had them both out together at the range and was plinking away with both of them side by side.
now, one day of plinking is not definitive but just from my rudimentary playing around I would have to side with everyone else on here, the CZ is a better fit and finish and cycles a lot smoother.
I can not attest to accuracy between them as I was just shooting at 50 and both chewed out the center of the target the same.

the price is very similar between them I would go with the CZ.
BUT.... the RPR is a pretty nice rifle.
I need to get them out more and do a lot more shooting with them to get a solid answer.
oh poor me, ill let my wife know that I HAVE to go out and do this, she will understand I'm sure.

I think that the RPR and some of the CZ get replaced after a while by most people because they are good entry-level rifles for this hobby.
but once you get in and drink the Kool-Aid you want to get top shelf.
so for entry level both would serve as a placeholder to see if you like the hobby.

The barrel changes are not simple and the feeding afterwards can be finicky. I touch mine the way it likes to be touched and generally all is well. Get a CZ.
