I am looking for something in 44 Mag or 454 Casull.

Which would you recommend Ruger Super Redhawk, Smith and Wesson or Taurus? Money is no object....and I am seriously thinking of getting either chopped to 5" or so.

Thanks in advance

If money is no object then I would leave out Taurus and get a S&W and a Ruger. :)

It depends why you want the gun. I personally like the S&W the best but I'm not much interested in shooting heavy loads (even though I have two S&W, one Thompson Contender Center, and a Desert Eagle all in 44 magnum).

44 magnum is cheaper to shoot but if cost is no object then why not 454 Casull then.

S&W 460V...

I am not sure if 5" models will still be available for very long. Seems to be some back-peddiling by CFC on possible 12(6) classification because of removeable compensator.

It can shoot 45 LC, 454 Casull and 460 S&W Magnum(2000 fps):D

Before taking the plunge into shooting rounds like the 454, make sure you are comfortable with it. Using full power loads, its not something you will find comfortable all day long, although I found the grips on the Taurus to be the best as far as factory goes. They really absorb a lot of the recoil. The 460 is a helluva gun as well and very versatile.
Nothing like paying almost $2/round or more for factory. Must be nice to be wealthy.:p
Cheers:)

My Next Restricted purchase (whenever that is) is going to be a .44Mag - Ruger Super Redhawk.

:)

Hope that helps!

Just make sure you handle it in the shop and even buy a display if it looks good - I once bought a brand new Ruger (unseen) and it was a lemon; but these things happen.

You can get Taurus Raging Bull in .454 with a 5in barrel so it will spare you the chopping ;)

FYI Raging Bull was the first even double action revolver chambered into .454cassull

but I would recommend one in .44mag cheaper to shoot (even if you reload) and with H110 it's not that much 'weaker' than .454!

But if you want something a little easier on the hand... The "629 Classis" is just that, a classic

Or, if you want to be the "exotic" guy... you can try to locate a Mateba

The company went belly up in 2005...
