Decisions, decisions...

On the first page my vote was for the Ruger American, out of what you listed, and I stand by that. But people seem to be listing options outside of what you started with, so I'm going to say, find an old Brno 1, 2 or 5. Lots of them around, they're rugged, good to great open sights, easy to get extra magazines, will probably be worth as much or more than you paid for it when you go to sell, look great (my opinion). I currently own 14 of them and they all shoot very, very well.

Get a MkII and order a nice walnut stock from Boyd's.

This is probably the best take. The Mark II is the gun I "need" (best fits my purpose), but the CZ is the gun I want.

I have both a CZ455 American, and a Savage MKII BTVSS (heavy barrel & thumbhole stock). Now it's obviously not comparing apples to apples since the Savage has the heavy barrel, but it probably doesn't make a HUGE difference. That said, there is no discernible difference in accuracy between the two, at least not with the brands of ammo I have tried. Both guns seem to group well with CCI SV and with CCI Blazer.

Looks like a Savage MkII G is $299 right now at Cabela's with a decent looking wood stock. That's a no brainer.

Excellent suggestion , I have both the lr and mag version and they shoot lights out . The blueing is way better then the current Cz lineup .

How about a Zastava MP-22? Wood stock, iron sights, detachable metal mags (x2), adjustable trigger, very nice blueing, mighty solid build and plastic free except the butt pad. And accurate to boot! Can be had for about $300,- if available.

They may have some kinks though which can be worked out. Extraction problems are being reported and feeding issues as well. There are some threads on rimfire central how to remedy above mentioned issues. Not all guns have em though.

I be a lover of the CZ 452 series rifles, but I've had a few Savage MKII's as well. The Savage FVSR units with 16" heavy barrels I had were just as accurate & sometimes a wee bit more than my CZ's when using standard CCI's & Blazer ammo. Good stuff like Lapua & Eley can give very nice results in the Savage & CZ's fer folks that seek tiny groups.

My Savage MKIIs and CZ452s are pretty much equal in accuracy, but my 452s make me smile just caressing and looking at them.

Look at the bolts, receivers, barrels, the fit and finish. Don't get me wrong. I really like shooting my MKIIG and MKIGY. There is no pleasure or pride of ownership in them. They can shoot right up there with the CZs. They're like a homely girlfriend who can cook. But CZs are like a hot girlfriend who can also cook.

If you chance upon a CZ Scout, that's my favorite. Compact, light, fixed sights, same accuracy as the longer models.

Respectfully, if a hundred bucks or two, is a deal breaker, then go Savage.

Wow. I ignored this thread for a few days because people had stopped responding, but then all of a sudden, I see another couple pages of responses. Thanks guys!

I managed to find a rifle that piqued my curiosity. I had settled on the CZ, when my new gun popped up on the EE. What is it? Hint: it hasn't even been mentioned in the thread yet.

I will definitely post pics and test targets when it makes it to my door. It's always a bit of a gamble, but these guns seem to have a good reputation, so I'm hoping it's a shooter.

This is what I have currently. I used to really love this gun. Way more accurate than I expected it to be. I've shot a lot with it. I might keep it, or I might toss it up on the EE for cheap, but I decided to replace it as my primary .22, for a couple reasons.

1. Consistent feed problem with the last round in the magazine. I tried to adjust mag lips, but I couldn't fix it. I could still get the round to feed, but I had to be aggressive with the bolt.

2. Failures to extract, especially on a hot day. I was going to just put up with it, because it wasn't too bad most of the time. But then, it got worse. It started by consistently failing to extract an unfired round. If I wanted to unload the rifle, I always had to fire the loaded round first. And then, I took it out on a hot day, and it was probably every third round that it failed to extract. At that point, I just said forget it. I'm going to find something else.

I feel your pain. I have a half dozen or so rim fires in ee now and maybe 1or 2 more to come. All so I can get a 54 Anschutz. I sought I have the ability to use all that it can do but it is fun to try.

While it doesn't come with sights, the Browning T-Bolt sure are fun
