Anyone ever have an issue with a decocker on a pistol?

ie. Something is wrong with it, or from many, MANY years of use it fails to work properly, and when you decock the hammer, it strikes the firing pin hard enough to fire?

I don't actually know how the mechanism works, maybe its fail proof, but I was outside raking the leaves thinking about guns ( ), and this crossed my mind.

even if the hammer hit the firing pin on most modern pistols, it still couldn't go bang, as most of them have firing pin blocks that only move out of the way when the trigger is pulled. Then you have ones like the Beretta that actually move the firing pin striker out of the way as the decocker is rotated.

Are there any other manufactures that have this feature ?? Ruger perhaps ??

IMI Baby Eagle. Drops the hammer, pulls the whole pin forward away from the hammer. Very safe pistol.

Per the problem of the gun possibly firing while decocking - look at the firing pin to make sure not has not rotated somehow so that the sear is not being engaged properly by the safety.

Most of my guns have decockers & I have never had a problem with any of them. The Sig decocker is great, u can control it unlike my smith that just lets it drop

S&W 59, 459, 5904 and similar pistols all have safety/decockers..... The sear release lever must be fit. It controls at which point the sear releases the hammer as the safety lever is rotated. If it releases too early  it goes bang!

I put my thumb on the hammer and point in a safe direction anyway.
Unless it is the chamber a round with the decocker safety on, but in a safe direction nonetheless.
The mechanical decockers are probably as safe as most things on you car that could kill you.
