Decockers - How important are they to you?

How important is having a decocker on a DA/SA pistol?

  • Not important at all. Manual decocking isn't a concern.

My work secondary is a 226 and I love the decocker. Mind you for work it's meant to be handled under extreme stress, full of adrenaline, while sweaty, wet or muddy. At that point I wouldn't trust using my thumb on the hammer. It also beats my last issue sidearm (a BHP) as at least it's carried in the ready state, not the loaded (next to useless) state.

I'm hoping that we relaunch the program to replace the service pistol for the CF, only without the mentally challenged conditions of the last (cancelled) RFP.

Having a service pistol that you can get into action with one hand while wearing gloves would be nice.

I'd prefer a DA only to DA/SA designs. I've never had an issue decocking any type of pistol, but on a service gun, why add complications that demand more user training...much as i hate to say it, just issue a glock and be done with it. cheap too

We have one already. I was curious to see how big a factor it is with a cross section of the public.

So far the poll seems to line up with my original expectations.

A decocker usually results in some compromise in the feel and operation of the trigger system.
In our case, it does add slightly to the SA weight and increases the reset distance compared to the original.
However, since we start out with a fairly light and short reset, we can afford it.

I note that a few commented about the position and function of the decocker.
Slide mounted never really did it for me.

Ours uses the same position as our regular lever.
Straight forward is as usual, no safety applied.
Up is cocked and locked.
Down is both for manual decocking, and if left down for DAO.
The pictures are of the older Mk7 grip.

Pretty much something for everyone. Very interesting.
