Have any of you successfully used decoys on deer ?
What's you set up ? What time of the season works best ?
Will they work in the early season ?

etc........

thanks for all the info

Ive done it. I found that the bucks take offence to them in the later season. But they can make a nice calm atmosphere if you set them up in a field and you are in a blind nearby. I found the does tend to migrate toward them......probably out of curiosity more than anything.

I had a buck take a few bluff charges at one.

I wrote an article in "Alberta Outdoorsmen" magazine about one such set up in the January 2007 edition.

I have used the Renzo's silhouette and yes they work. I have had deer run up to it then try to walk around the decoy and then get that dumb stupid look as to hey where did he go.

They work with both bucks and does, and help keep the eyes and other senses looking for you.

Just use your head when hunting with decoys. Be very careful you do not get yourself shot walking in and out of the field with it. I hunt on our own private property and make sure I take all precautions when using them.

If you used a deer decoy out our way someone would blow the sh%t out of it in the first 10 minutes, it's the same reason no one in their right mind would use duck or goose decoys out our way, they'd be full of holes in no time! Here you must hunt like you drive, very defensively!!

No kiddin ...

CO's ("warden's") up our way have got all kinds of stories to tell when they put out the stuffed deer in the field, 70 or 80 yards off the side of the road. Nice "sting" operation for road poachers & jack-lighters.

Buddy & his wife both swear by their deer decoys ... success for the past several years, hunting from seperate, cozy, camoed up blinds.
