Dedicated o/u trap guns

Before I pull the plug on a beretta sp1 sporting I'm wondering if I should be looking at a dedicated o/u trap gun instead. My primary game is trap so I don't want to end up having to get another gun a few years from now. Anyone been in my situation before?

Sticking with beretta and browning ....

I would be looking at the 682 gold ex trap or for a lot less the browning xt trap.
Not sure how muh the beretta 692 trap version is but that's an option as well.
Opinions, advice or thoughts?
 
Whatever you get I would recommend an adjustable comb. This way you can make the gun fit you. Also you will be able to adjust your point of impact were you want it
 
Yeah I see the appeal of an adjustable comb, but boy does that add to the cost of the shotgun. I think if I get a bereta sp1 sporter or a browning 725 sporting ill always wonder if I should have gotten a beretta gold ex trap / browning xt trap and vice versa. Ill probably only try other clay sports for fun occasionally but spend most of my clay time on trap.
 
Buy the gun suited best for your main purpose. Trap guns shoot high because you are shooting a rising target. IMHO trap stocks are better suited to most folks because they are parallel to the rib. Stock fit is the most important feature of any shotgun. Lean toward the gun that fits you the best.

The extra $$ you will spend on a 682 GoldE X Trap will become a non-factor given what you will eventually spend on targets, ammo, travel, gun club dues and entry fees. ;) It is a Trap gun that will serve you for thousands of rounds. Starting out, I would probably opt for the adjustable comb model ... it makes the inevitable "fiddling" a lot easier to accomplish.
 
Great advice. The short list I've come up that I need to handle and see how each fits is:
Beretta gold ex trap
Beretta 692 trap
Browning citori xt trap
Browning 725 trap

Any other models or brands worth looking at?
 
I shoot primarily trap, with some skeet and SC. I shoot a Browning XT trap, with factory adj comb and I had an adjustable butt added as well. Gives me all the adjustment i need. I chose the XT because it fit well from the start. Brownings fit me better than Beretta, but I have no loyalty to one brand vs the other in terms of quality or value. Just what fits better. I bought my XT lightly used with case/chokes/etc for a little over $2K
I think the Browning XT is the workhorse of the serious trap guns. It is at the lower end of the $$ range for serious trap but offers all you need for many many trouble free years of dusting clays. You will see many of them at most clubs for good reason... its a good solid shooter. You can also shoot skeet and sporting clays with the same gun which is nice.
