yes I will need to use lime as our area has a lot of pine and cedar trees.

In your first post it was $45 for 3 plots(18,000sqfeet), now its $135 for the same area less than 1/2 an acre, you could seed that for less than $10, I`ve never met Steve and only heard good things but you are paying for that service

I said we are paying $45 split 3 ways so its $15 each sorry I could have worded that better I guess. Yes its less then a 1/2 acre and I will also have some seed left after seeding that 18,000sqft to touch up any spots I want or can add another little plot some where.

I understand this is your first year planting foodplots and there is a big learning curve, having professional help will help alot.
From your described situation my concern would be overgrazing, when planting small plots if the deer decide they like it a small plot like that can be gone over night, literally!
 
Campbery - I was/am concerned about that. I have 2 acres there and was going to plant 1/2 of it for the food plot. Perhaps I'll seed it this fall and then overseed in the spring if there is excessive grazing.
 
Over grazing is a concern for sure thats partly why Steve is coming out to check out a few spots to see if we can get some bigger equipment in there to get 1 or 2-- 1acre plots instead of the small ones.

If we cant get the equipment back in there then I will hold of on planting until late August-sept so the crops are fresh for bow season.

Now, I just wonder how long before those two ass hats from out west come in here and trash this thread and start another pissing match in what is right and wrong. If those two dorks that what to run the country or at least control what you do do on your own land! don't back down and let them close another thread by the banter!. Stay focused, stay on topic of data and exchange of info. And what you have done in the past and what you are planning to do! I have said we need a topic forum just based on this so those don't agree don't have to go into that thread to upset themselves, but they will any way! but at least we could have a free exchange of info without the banter and should be monitored by a mod that would stop the crap that has gone on before on some of these threads. Most die off very fast based on some people tactics. Do a search on plots and find out. Don't let this new thread die! Keep posting!

You are most likely right Cdngunner, but it's like people telling me this not going to work, or it can't be done! It just makes my blood boil and clot at the same time! I just want to pick up the nearest tool/object and give a shot of positive energy to the forehead! In a passive non-aggressive manner of course!:kickInTheNuts:

On that note.....

I can go to the feed store and pick up lime for $9/30kg bag

or

I can go 10 miles down the road to a quarry and pick it up for $12/tonne.

What should I do???????
 
$12 a tonne! that's awesome! 1/2 tonne per acre of food plot is the general rule of thumb. You will also need a general purpose fertilizer like 12-12-12 or 19-19-19 if your soil is less then ideal mix at aprox 250lbs per acre.
 
we don't lime or fertilize, just plant the species that do well in the soils you have. a couple pics of a new plot we started last year and are expanding, all our plots were done with the ATV and a little round-up

a big part of helping the deer out especially in spring is mineral, really seems to help the does/fawns and bucks with building bone

I have never seen them in their catalogue.
I will run by PA tomorrow and see if they have any kicking around. I think it was in the fall when they had their sale 50% of off all their ATV attachments
