Just checking what folks think about deer with warts, its not common, but spend enough time hunting , and you will come across a deer with Warts, it ain't purdy.:D
Would you kill it, if hunting , and legal to do so.?
Would you kill the deer next to it without warts , cause it don't ?
Would you dress, take , and eat the deer?
Would you just look for deer without warts, and kill those.?

Not gonna say what I would do, yet :p , but do have this adventure under my belt..:D

You can google it, I can tell ya first hand its not a pretty sight. I shot a blacktail that was covered, at first I was wondering wtf is that:eek: So I made some calls, got swept up on all aspects of this rare occurance.
Hauled the hide off it, and the deer meat was fine.
This happens to humans also, similar to deer, but not as bad. The point I want to make is , take that deer, as it can effect other deer, don't know if pain is a factor, but deer can die from it, and also recover.
So its a good idea to look past this , and take that animal , I did, and would again.

Lots of that here on the Island- its the papilloma virus. My 'diseases of wildlife' handbook says cut around the nasty part, throw it out and eat the rest. Humans can't catch warts from non primates like deer and frogs (despite what you were told as a kid!) ;)

We have a deer that comes around the yard that has one the size of a cantalope on her neck.... ugly as hell!! We call her 'goiter girl'! :D

Papillomaviruses are fairly specific to a species and deer warts are no concern to humans.
Thankfully most diseases of deer tend to not concern humans.

There are a lot of diseases out there humans do get from animals though (rabies, ebola, SARS, Foot-and-mouth disease, equine rhinits) and it's always a good idea to be careful.

I usually try to look how healthy and well a animal looks before I shoot. I don't shoot something that looks sick, scrawny ...
Unless it's so bad that it needs to be brought to the attention of F&W.
Wolves and coyotes tend to clean things up pretty good around here though.

id take it and use gloves for every step of the process when dealing with the skin, much like cow warts you can get these and that would suck
