deer approaching turkey decoys.

About a month ago when I was out hunting Turkeys I had two deer approach my 3 decoys.

The two buck deer came out of the forest walked 100 meters up to my decoys and then proceeded back into the forest the same way they came. I don't know if they approached because of curiosity or because the turkeys made them feel at ease.

Has anyone tried to use turkey decoys for deer hunting?
Has anyone had a similar incident while turkey hunting?

They eat the same kinds of food, so that may be the case here.
In fact, you may sometime see turkeys following deer on their feeding forays.

I saw the opposite. A turkey approaching me while deer hunting. I was blocking. He came right by me, i didn't flinch, and was wearing blaze orange. Then I moved and he took off. Who said turkeys have colour vision???? ;)

I know it would work very well, but I always wonder what would happen if I came out of the woods with my bow and a turkey decoy in deer season, the wrong fish cop on a bad day could really make your life miserable.

"Im going to have to write you a ticket for hunting turkey out of season"
"But Im not hunting turkey"
"Son what kind of decoy is that"
"It's a turkey decoy Sir"
"And what are you going to hunt with a turkey decoy"
"Deer"
"......"

While hunting deer last year I had 30 to 40 turkeys exit the bush and walk right past me, some as close as 5 feet away. I was on the ground, back to a tree in full blaze orange. It's movement that makes them flee.

Yup, Huntress & I had deer around our turkey decoys and one of the deer even touched the Tom decoy with it's nose & moved it! Cool to see, deer are obviously very relaxed around turkey's. So, I'd consider using a turkey decoy as a confidence decoy in the fall for deer hunting.

Cheers
Jay
