deer attractant

I use rackstacker mineral fountains. I've done a few food plots but find its hard to attract the deer to my plot when the rest of the farm is covered with feed for them as well. With the mineral its something they can use and not get anywhere else. Took a 7pt buck opening day of bow season where I put the first fountain in. May have to add apples to it in the fall as sometimes as the season goes on they are not as interested in the mineral.

A speeding vehicle with ultra bright headlights zipping down the 401 seems to do well at attracting and hitting at least one deer per night out in front of my place...

even though my property is loaded with apple trees, and so is my neighbors. I find that they will still come to a pile of apples in the bush, where they don't have to expose themselves. Later in the year I will put out small quantities of corn, and molasses. I say small, because deer that don't eat corn all the time can't digest it. It doesn't do them any good, and may in fact do them harm. Same thing for other grains. If you are in an area where deer eat corn all the time, it's my understanding, that this is not an issue, as they will have the enzymes in their gut to digest it. I still prefer small quantities as you can control the timing it's available to them better. I generally put it out at a salt block.

Spread rock salt on an old stump. Deer love it year round. Apples as soon as they rippen.
If that doesnt work for ya, dig a big hole, at least 10 ft deep(,deer can jump high) place ashes at bottom of hole, and one apple on top of the ashes. When the deer comes over as it smells the apple, run over and kick in in the ashhole!

sometimes I use a blade of grass between my thumbs as a call..... or I use the hand made Haida deer call Carverk gifted to me..... otherwise I just show up in my spot and that seems to be enuff to attract all the deer that fall to my rifle hehe

never hunted over bait and if I can help it, never will..... not that I disagree with the practice or anything. Just never needed to.

COB (corns oats barley) from the local feed store and / or apples. You can freeze the apples and then turn them out - still works.

Rock salt on an old stump. If the stump has a cavity, even better, it will hold the salt better.

Heres a couple of mine, they attracts all manner of wood land beasts. I dump half a bag of rock salt on them once a year (when I started it 10 years ago, it was more, now its saturated with salt). Animals come year round. You can also use a salt block made for cattle, but I think I like the rock salt better.

It's easier and cheaper to simply hunt where the deer already want to be. Most times you're feeding other wildlife, advertising your spot to other hunters (public land), and in pressured areas the deer typically only show up outside hunting hours after the first couple weeks of the season anyways.

Great for getting trail cam pics though...

I put some corn and a salt rock beside some travel corridor alot of action and some black bear family who sleep and play whit the rock haha
