Deer cartridge?

I never once said I was the best shot... you assume much my friend.
And Senior only calls them like he sees them.. his comment was far less detrimental to the thread and far from a personal attack. If you look closley you will notice the razz smiley and the cool smiley after each of his comments.

I agree with Gatehouse, sometimes it is better just to dismiss this s**t... but when every thread gets slammed and people quit responding because of one individual that is just wrong.:(

I'm thinking i've been spending too much time in politics :)

Everybody knock it off with the personal attacks. I'll be sending a few pm's to specific people in a bit, but everyone can settle down.

Let me be very simple: I DO NOT WANT TO SEE ANYTHING MORE HARSH THAN "I DISAGREE" IN REBUTTALS.

Remember the cardinal rule folks - Attack the argument, not the person.

What Foxer said.

My system gets hacked by a friggan wild virus and you guys start gong for each others throats while I'm gone?

Relax guys, this section is usually the one that never gets locked or deleted due to the friendships that have been made here, lets keep it that way.

We don't ned the personal slams and it's only gonna get you into ho####er down the road anyways, why risk losing a good post count and a recognised name when all you gotta do is stop a simple thing like personal attacks.

You Dirty-30 with a red dot on top would work fine.If you put a slug barrel on your 870 and a red dot it would work just as good.

Those red dots are super fast for getting on target.Great for those close moving shots. You have to try one if you have not.

Let me be the first to apologize... I am just upset cuz I'm out of turkey tags and now I have to hunt groundhogs.
I should not let silly stuff bother me... sorry Phib.

On topic.. I must agree with captonion about the reddot... especially for old eyes it really speeds up the aquisition time.

The new Klingon Forehead in a Carbine in .308 with a reddot would be a wicked little bushgun.
Guy just bought one in .35 Whelen... he is mounting a 2-7 Leupold... should be testing it next week, stay tuned.

I just got my first Red Dot scope yesterday, it's now mounted on my Mossberg 500 and I can't wait to see how it works.

Oh Amphib, a Mossberg 500 is a "SHOTTIE".

wow! how much grease you need to get that huge head of yours through the door?

I am now picturing you dress as Che, atop a horse, banner waving the sheeple into a noble cause........

thats how it plays out in my mind ;) I think if we look at the big picture this is just another case of Pot vs. Kettle.

remember the first personal atack of this thread was made by Senior when he so eloquently call ed me a Jerk-Off.

There's an old saying amp " If the shoe fits"
More of his typical non-relivant unnessary responces
How about a collection to send him to Sweden where he'd have to prove his shooting experteze at moving targets just to get a licence :p :D

Back on thread content...I have never been a fan of red-dots, not sure just why  but does a shot-gun scope or very low power scope not give a larger F-O-V ?? I handled a rifle at the Perth show that had what I think was a pistol scope mounted some-what further ahead than normal position & found it to fit, work VERY nice when you pull the gun for quick target aquisition :)

Hey BR just got off the phone to help a friend fill his 2nd turkey tag and 2 more to go after that, 4 of us are done. This is a great way to extend the turkey season and learn more by calling for them. As for the original question in thick cedar for a 15 yard shot, if that is the only and best spot. At only 15, shotgun sounds good. I shot a lot of deer standing still at 15 and less in ceadar swamp, corn fields, and clear bush. This is a good excuse to buy all of those guns for different situations.

Perhaps i wasn't clear.

NO MORE. no more last pokes, no more cheap shots, no more badmouthing others in this thread. Or any others for that matter. Stay on topic, or leave the thread alone.

Personally - i love red dots. They are fast fast fast to get on target, and very easy to use with both eyes open. I'm told they're also handy for folks who have a mild dominance issue with their left eye, only the right eye can actualy see the dot even with both eyes open, so that tends to help. Not a problem for me, so i wouldn't know, but that's what they say.

WE put one on our bubba'd 303 for bushbusting sitka deer. Works like a charm.

If you want a magnification scope (ie not a red dot) then consider the mueller multishot. It's meant for that kind of stuff and has a 'shotgun' reticle (circle dot).

White falls sells them in canada. check out whitefalls.com

On the reddot topic... I was an average wingshot at best for years and after several shoulder operations my wingshooting went downhill. I put a holosight on the Browning Gold 3 1/2 and instantly became a 90% shooter.
They are fast and they never lie... even if you shoulder the gun wrong you can hit where they point. At one point, for deer hunting I had reddots on my shotgun, Crossbow and Muzzleloader. I still use a Reddot on my smoothbore sluggun for the tight cover and dogging.... sometimes they do stand still... but not often.;)
I have seen forward mounted reddots on Winchester 94's and they are a slick bush rifle.
I remember watching two fellas shooting at two running deer at the same time once. One guy was shooting a Ruger 44mag semi with a reddot and the other a Winchester 94 30-30 with peeps... they both shot five shots at the same cadence on the deer and both hit their respective deer three times. It was a great experience for me as I was dogging the ridge and saw and heard the whole thing... synchronized shooting of running deer.:)
My point is that although these guys had different equipment... their firearms were equal to the task and their ability to shoot them well allowed for their success.
