Deer collisions

We traded our 2000 Ford truck for a 2003 Grand Caravan on Nov 20. The anti theft system started acting up as soon as we got it home so they took it back to fix it. Two weeks later they finally got it fixed and where delivering it to us when they hit a deer. It had $6500 damage, and is still in being fixed. I doubt very much if I will except it after all that. They gave us a 2006 Montana all weel drive to use until we have this all straightened up, I guess they felt guilty. I have lived in a high deer population area all my life, and have only hit one deer in 35 years of driving, and that was one morning that I was late for work.

I know a guy who hit 3 at one time with his grandmothers car, he borrowed it for the weekend and hit 3 at once 15kms from her house. One was a big buck that went under the car, the other two does, one went onto the hood and over the car, then other ran into the side of the car.
Well fellas this topic is definitely exciting... but not nearly as exciting as our insurance rates going up 15% in areas with high deer collisions.

Well Dogleg only hit a wee Bambi so that does not really count. BTW he drives like a maniac!!
I know a guy who got pissed last year aroud this time when the animals start bunching up and hit 14 in a couple of miles. He was bragging about it in the bar a few nights later and a couple of people I know saw the carcasses.
That SOB did not get any chit for this as far as i know. And if he did it wouldn't have been the first time he got in trouble with the law.
Seems like people like that always worm them selfs out when they do get chit.

The most frequent vehicle accident type on Manitoulin is deer collisions. I have only hit two in 35 years (knock on wood), so I am not in the running. The biggest number I have heard for this year, is a guy who works at the Lafarge quarry near Meldrum Bay and drives to work from near Gore Bay. Up to November, he had hit 9. He has two old trucks, and about the time he gets the one repaired and on the road, he hits another deer and disables the other truck. He no longer has comprehensive insurance. I guess he must not have a "deercatcher". A few years ago there was a big controversy in the newspapers about whether the "deer whistles" work, but I haven't heard about this recently.

One of the deer I hit was in a company truck that had deer whistles. Whether they can hear them or not, it doesn't follow that they are alarmed by them. Maybe they are just amused?

I can not get as many tags as you folks living in Saskatchewan, but we are definitely not short of deer meet. In fact, I have about 25 kilos of fresh meat in my freezer and this year I did not even go deer hunting.
Not going hungry
