Deer collisions

Dogleg,
Nothing like breaking in that new truck. Just how many Km's did it take to switch that new truck smell with the lovely smell of deer?:D
 
Speaking of hitting deer, how many of you have been hit by deer?

Two years ago my old man was sitting at a red light in High River when all of a sudden he heard a huge bang and his brand new truck moves as if someone hit him. He looked around only to notice a nice whitetail buck laying beside his truck. He got out, the buck got up, shook his head and took off running.

That deer caused over 2000 bones in damage and the truck wasnt even moving :eek:

Goes to show ya a deer can do major damage if hit at 100kmph if they can do that much while your standing still.
 
I nailed a deer (big doe) with the work van this fall. $4700 damage! :eek:

You'd have to be nuts, or driving a tank to want to hit a deer. They can do a pile of damage.
The year that I hit two, I probably avoided a dozen.
In 2006, I never even came close to one. Much like hunting, it's being in the right (or in this case wrong) place at the right time.
Incidentally, the two deer I hit that year, actually, hit me! They jumped against the side of my vehicle.
 
About two years ago one of our planes was on approach for landing in North Battleford early in the morning (still dark). The pilot didn't see the deer bolt out in front on him on touchdown until it was too late. Let's just say that deer was cut up fairly messily. That one req'd the prop being replaced.

:D Exactly! I almost ran into two on foggy days in a heavily deer populated area. I knew they were gonna come out at that time. The vehicles behind me kept honking at me as I was driving at speed limit:mad: . I didn't give a shat.
 
A third of our business is from deer/moose hits. We do 3-4 hundred repairs, not including the total loss write-offs, every year in a small town. Everybody has deer whistles thinking it might help, they don't. They have excellent hearing and know your coming, whistles or not. Problem with deer is they panic at the last minute and run, often as not right into traffic. When you see a deer on or near the highway... slow down, they usually want to cross the road but hear and see you coming and that confuses them so they stand there not knowing what to do until you get right up on them and then they panic and bolt at the last second usually toward where they intended to go in the first place and thats right across the road in front or into the side of your vehicle.
 
A few years ago at Wainright we were heading back along Red Route, and a deer came out of nowhere and ran into thhe side of my Cherokee!:eek:
He hit the left front with his head, holing the rad, and went under the tires, bashing everything (including himself) along the way!
I pulled into the checkpoint, and the Warden said" nice deer! What'd ya get them with ?"
" I got the fork horn muley with my .58, and the big 5X5 White tail I nailed with my Jeep!":rolleyes:
Blue book on the SUV was $3,200, damage was $3,900!:eek: :eek:
They fixed it anyway.....:dancingbanana:

In the summer of 2005 I was heading to Edmonton and was just a few km past the bridge in Peace River at about 2:30 in the AM when a deer crossed the highway in front of my Windstar. I started to slow down and figured he would be long gone when all of a sudden he just turned around and ran back directly in my path. I laid on the brakes and I just sort of wiped his rear end with the right curved end of my front bumper. He spun around about 1.5 times and rolled off the road.

I pulled over and went back to have a look but there was nothing there; he was long gone into the bushes. The only sign on my van was a smear of some grime and a little fur. Other than that there was no damage whatsoever. Luck, pure dumb luck!

I hav'nt hit one yet, If I did it would add more character to my truck.
The passenger door can always use a brother or sister from when that "deadfall" jumped out and bit it:mad:
Knock on wood hopefully this fake wood computer desk will suffice?
 
I want to see more pictures!!!
For the record.. I do not take pleasure in seeing the suffering(at least material) that those accidents have caused, but I want to get up a collection to prove a point to someone...

My girlfriend and i hit a deer at about 90 km/h. We were going around 110,saw the deer come out of the ditch,the deer looked at us,we swerved into the oncoming lane and the deers head hit the passenger side mirror. We just grazed the deer. Windshield got cracked,passenger mirror exploded and glass flew across the inside of the car and cut the drivers arm(girlfriend). we were very lucky.
