Thanks, they don't allow any baiting of deer here in Manitoba. Just was wondering about peoples experiences with decoys. Reviews seem to suggest they work for some, but good to hear from someone who has actually tried it like you.
It could very well be where I hunt on my property that both decoys don't work. Even using a grunt call and rattle don't work for me whether in a tree stand or ground blind.
Spent lots of money on the scent control stuff. Leave it out all week long in the bush for that "natural" scent and the decoy ends up being a lawn ornament.
Lucky for me bait station is legal in my area and the deer in my area prefer apples and leave the carrots till late Dec into Jan. Wish it was the other way around cause a truck load of deer carrots is only $25.00
In my area any realistic decoy is likely to be shot by a trespasser or poacher. My buddy has tried one several times however him swearing at it while trying to assemble it in the dark is likely why it hasn't worked
My buddy got one a few years back as a bow target so he tried it that first year and had success. Had a bunch of does around it feeding, as soon as the buck jumped the fence it ran right over to the decoy. I don't think he uses it anymore due to the pain of assembly
A small full bodied buck decoy quartering on works wonders if the ruts on. I've seen dominant bucks come in and absolutely trash the decoy to the point when the legs came flying off. Lone doe decoys never really seemed to work for me as the always seemed to spook game rather than draw them in closer.
