Deer eating at gut piles

I think of cats a obligate carnivores but not dogs. Most of dog food in store are plants with some meat mixed in.

I dunno.... for years i had cats and they always ate certain houseplants and different herbs outside in the garden as well. One of my cats was a real nuisance in the garden and would chew off the carrot greens. I thought it was rabbits or rodents at first until one time while daydreaming out the window over the back yard I could clearly see him munching down on carrot greens.. LOL

Haha, chickens are savages. We have a couple hens from last springs hatches that only have one cheek waddle, when they were young and growing some of the other chicks pecked the waddles off and they never grew back.

I read about a study that was a collaboration between le and a university in the US on cadavers (human) decomposing in the forest. They were surprised to find deer munching on the bodies.

I am having a DeJaVu moment here.
Was that not discussed last fall on CGN ?
Someone even posted a link to the story.
I have pictures of Mallards eating their kinfolks that got flattened on the road.
Not in digital format mind you, but do have.

I've read articles on deer eating dead salomon on the west coast. and a different article where researchers were attempting to do a study on small birds only to find something was eating the birds that got caught in the nets. after setting up a trail camera they were surprised to find deer eating the birds.

we had one that was wounded in a coyote attack . the other birds pulled and pecked her insides out . very vicious indeed!

When I was younger boy I would help out on my Grandmother's dairy farm and many times I seen the cows eat mice they had found dead in the barn, some of the cows would even try and stomp on a mouse to kill it and then eat it.

Unfortunately that is a huge way to transfer chronic wasting among animals.

I was shooting pigeons in a cow barn once with an air rifle and the cows would stomp the flopping birds into the mire .

Even herbivores can't pass on much needed delicious proteins! Cows will sometimes eat pieces of gopher after we shot them.

I think creatures within the animal kingdom simply react to instincts within like the need for protein and minerals that they may be lacking, hence some of these seemingly weird behaviour.

20 years ago I watched a chipmunk foraging in Northern Ontario at my cottage. Suddenly it jumped on a leopard frog in the grass. He proceeded to chew it from nose to toe until his cheeks were filled with meat. He/she then just continued on it's way.
I will admit I may have consumed a beverage or two at the time however later learned it is actually quite common.
