Deer feed

Is this thread gonna get tense with the baiters and non baiters? This is about what you use in the feeder so you guys that wanna start beaking off about how bad baiting is can clam up now.

I use corn in mine, it's an American Hunter R series, just picked up the solar charging kit for it the other day, thats gonna make things a whole lot easier.

I have the Pro Hunter from Moultrie, and the little solar panel works great. Mine has only been up about a 5 weeks, but the battery is still 98% My problem is th e place where I am moving it will not get the same amount of sun, so I am crossing my fingers. After the bear incident I am now looking for a few more feet of piping to raise my feeder off the ground a couple more feet.

I suggest you take care of that bear on opening day.;)

Corn does work the best, it does not get damp and stick like oats!

We feed deer in the winter, in the spring and the fall!

Does not mean we shoot every deer that comes to the bait, far from it, we get to observe the stock herd and infact keeping a good amount of doe's around the field pays off each year with a guy getting a chance to dump a trophy that was only seen for the first time.

It also gives you the chance to take the deer you do not want breading!!! I think it has far more benifit that not!

As for hunting over bait, we hunt evening in the stands and hunt hounds through the day!!! ohhhh that time is coming when the hair stands up and goose bumps apear and you hear the hounds on a deer.

as far as i'm concerned everyone here who hunts goes to where their preys food plot is. thats mother natures bait site:slap:

This is your post on another thread

I do not see the difference between my putting out a corn feeder and you growing a food plot. Care to elaborate on that.

There is no differance what so ever. I dont understand how people think its ok to put out bait for bears such as donuts or whatever, but really cringe on the fact that some others may want to try it as well for deer.

Around here most of the hunters either bait or run drives. This season I used both methods, and saw more deer sitting in my stand that was between a bed site and a well used run than I did baiting. I'm going to ditch the baiting method, as there are too many people and hunters feeding the deer in our area. The deer never go hungry.

My dad has been hunting a long time and almost all the decent sized bucks were shot while hanging out in the shadows behind his bait (while does feed). They're smart and almost totally nocturnal by the time our rifle season rolls around. Id like to set up a food plot one day, and set up stands on the runs in and out of the plot. I think that is the best way to shoot big bucks. Ambush them on their way out at first light or on their way back in at last light.
