Deer found at sea {edited, found the story}

Nature has a way of sorting the strong swimmers from the weak swimmers. I don't like the thought of an animal suffering unnecessarily, but manhandling a soaking wet exhausted wild animal into your fishing boat is another way of saying, 'Mother Nature doesn't know her place.' What about those sharp hooves and panicked spasms of self-protection? Would those same guys jump into the water to untie the ropes if the deer went overboard and couldn't swim?

Every spring soft-touchs venture out onto melting river and lake ice to rescue stranded pets and wild animals. Fire Department personnel then have to go rescue stranded humans. Humans can be so selfish and impulsive that they put themselves and others at greater risk.

A few years ago while travelling to work alongside the SJ River in late March,I witnessed a deer that had fallen through the weak ice 200yds from shore and was struggling to get out to no avail.Knowing one of the local Game Wardens that lived nearby,I called him to see if there was anything they could do.He basically re-itterated what Maple leaf said ie:"It happens ALL THE TIME,just usually not in public view,and we don't risk our lives interfering with nature."

Later that day as I passed by the location again,there were 2 bald eagles standing watch over the hole scavenging.Nature at work.
