Deer going into rut soon so time to get the rifle ready. The last step in my prep is to check performance at 1/2/300M which is my practiced comfort zone. I leave the rifle/ammo outside overnight before the Range trip to shoot three shots. First at 200M (zero), second at 300M, and third at 100M. Result from today at -5C (overnight was -12C). Rifle is chambered in 6.5 X 47L wearing a 4-12 X 40 VX2. MD 0.57” and weighs 7.5 lbs scoped. Shooting 135gr Berger Classic Hunters.

That otta do it... nice little deer rifle. Make sure you are comfortable from 20-50 yards aswell... zeroed at 200, you should be bang on at these close ranges also... I know people who aimed low on game at close range thinking that the POI would be higher than it actually is.

Edit; oops.

Stiller Predator action / Kreiger 24” 1:8 barrel / Jewell trigger / Holland recoil lug / KS Arms bottom metal with HS Precision magazine / Wildcat stock. Chambered by KS Arms. I am loading 41.0 gr H4350 behind the 135gr Berger Classic Hunter bullets lit by CCI- BR4’s. I think MV is about 2870FPS but I haven’t checked this load with cold ammo.

I did the same routine with the rig I carry for Elk, a 30-284 loaded with 168 gr Berger Classic Hunters. Point of impacts at each distance are within about 1/2” of the ‘47L. The 30-284’s are leaving the muzzle about 2900FPS.

That sounds like a laser beam!! And less recoil than a 300 WM for similar ballistics.

All I can say is that is an impressive build sheet. I wish I had spare change like that. Someday .....

Hey ML ... no booze or smokes leaves lots left over for toys:)

This is the 30-284. BAT repeater short action with integrated recoil lug / 24” KS Arms barrel 1:12 twist with 0.72MD / Timney trigger / KS Arms bottom metal with HS Precision magazine / Wildcat stock designed by KS Arms / Chambered by KS Arms. Leupold VX 2 4-12X40 scope / 8.6 lbs scoped as in the picture. I went with a heavier contour barrel to suck up a bit of recoil. 168 Berger Classic Hunters leave the muzzle about 2900FPS. Bullet is seated deep to fit in the magazine. The 168’s are pushed by 50.5 gr of Varget lit by CCI-BR2’s.
I have it zeroed ....about 1.9” high at 100M, 0.75” high at 200M / - 7.75” low at 300M.

I suspect if chambered in a long action with a longer magazine so bullets could be seated longer, MV in the 2975 FPS Range would be quite possible.

Sitting on my BLR 308. Probably not getting used this hunting season. I want to see lots of antler so need some magnification.

I liked the concept of the red dot.

Don’t look at the antlers to hard sometimes they end up with bullets holes in them lol.

It is a fantastic round highly overlooked I think. All that I have built have been real tack drivers... the first one took a nice elk 440 yards. The fellow even had it on video... fired two shots in about 3 seconds... and the holes were about an inch apart in the chest.

Agreed. About the same case capacity as a 30-06 but pressures up a bit higher. I think some in the F Open class flirted with necking that 284 to 30 cal for a while.

A familiar wildcat from 30 yrs ago was 6.5x284. It is an intriguing starting point.

I know two fellas who shot an elk once each, through the same hole. Nice bull came into the field to see what all the bugling was about. One guy hammers his right shoulder. Elk spins to head back to the woodline. A second hunter hammers him again. Great minds think alike. The two holes were maybe 2" apart. Not much meat loss that way.
