Deer. How Close Have you Been?

I've shot deer inside of ten feet numerous times, I think the key is their being distracted.
Being that close to a moose you are about to shoot, well lets say you'd best be confident about your shot placement. I've been that close to moose four times.
Two I shot, Two I had no tag for. That close to an angry cow moose is not a nice place to be.

A few years back I was on the edge of a line and had bad gas from eating a BBQ chicken from Superstore. I knew some deer were close, I sneaked out a SBD and a few seconds later the bush exploded beside me and this nice 4x4 went crashing thru the timber. I have never before or since heard a deer snort so loud, I couldn't shoot for laughing.

Last year a doe on opening day walked by me approx 8 feet. I was sitting beside a tree. It went by caught by across a trail into the bush. It winded me and ran back by me.

Turkey hunting this year one came around the tree we were sitting beside. We could have poked it with our guns.

I've been nose to nose with a whitetail doe at about 24 inches, I was wearing full camo with face paint and sitting absolutely still except I couldn't stop my eyes from blinking... this was the only thing she seemed to pick up on but couldn't figure out what I was. The doe was staring right at my eyes and as she came in was stomping her front feet on the ground like she was trying get me to move...at 24 inches I was thinking I might get hit by a hoof so I stood up and put the run on her.
Also had a 5 point bull elk at about 36 inches but that's another story that also includes a grizzly at 15 feet while field dressing the elk.

I had a nice little 6 point about 5 feet from me but it was still pitch black out and not legal. I was on the edge of a field sitting just inside the treeline and the buck was distracted looking out into the field. He walked out into the field and headed across towards my hunting partner. Just after legal light I had another buck start snorting and thrashing around and the 6 pointer came trotting by looking for him. He caught the movement when I shouldered my beretta but it was a little too late.... ;)
