Deer Hunting Around Nanaimo

I would like to to Deer hunting on Vancouver island but would like to take a morning ferry and come back on the evening one. Is there any spot 1 hour driving from Nanaimo or from Swartz bay ferry terminal?

There is some area behind Nanaimo at the end of Nanaimo Lakes road up past the lakes but access can be restricted at times. Same applies to the Copper Canyon area behind Chemainus as well. Hopefully with the recent rain they are allowing access to that area. The gate is open on weekends.

Problem with hunting on the island is that a huge majority of the area is owned by logging companies, especially mid and south island.

Are you a B.C. resident or an Alberta resident? If the latter you need a guide or a B.C. resident with a permit to accompany you.
