Deer Hunting In The Rain

Every year we seem to shoot a deer in the rain, maybe they don't move on their own but we get them going. If you can stay warm why not give it a try, any day hunting is no waste.

If I only had ONE day to hunt to feed my family I would say the best chance would be on a rainy stormy day. I do the stalk....watch......stalk......watch type of hunting on those days ~ most days really in our thick bush.

I love hunting deer in the rain... Remember, YOU may think it sucks outside when it is cold and wet... BUT... deer have no choice, they have to move around and feed regardless of the weather...

So, unless it is a hurricane outside... the deer are moving... Rain also makes the woods "quiet", and you can sneak around better than when the leaves are dry and crunchy...

As long as its not too much rain. Its been rainning here in on the Island for 2 weeks (or more) now. We went hunting yesterday and last weekend, didnt see anything. So we are going to wait till its dryer out.

I guess the Island deer dont like it too wet :D

The rainier the better. I was out yesterday it was blustery and rainy with few breaks. I saw two does and passed on a young buck. Shot a grouse on the way home tho :)

I was out the day before, it was much drier and I couldn't find any deer. They're hard to find at the best of times around here but I truely think foul weather is the time to go.

edit to add: I watched the lil buck standing in the bush, frozen, and looking at me with my binocs for about 5 minutes. I could see water running off of his head, between his eyes and dripping steadily off of the sides of his snout. That was kind of cool. Sure didn't seem to bother him...
