I plan to scout the cutovers between White Fish Lake and Northern Light Lake next week. Am I wasting my time? I checked out land around Cloud Lake,Hwy.590 and 593. These areas are either privately owned or the cutovers are grown up on the crown land. Any advice would be much appreciated.
I live 2.5 hours from Thunderbay

The last time is was up there was 2006. We were off the Dorion Rd. (off the 527) Didn't get any moose that time, but saw 13 deer that week, mostly in the older cutovers.

Thanks for the advice blargon and jiminthecorner. Jeez, not one response from a ThunderBay gunnut. It's a big area guys,I was not asking for your favourite spot. Just a point in the general direction for a new guy to scout his own spot. Still open for advice please.

Thunder Bay area

Having hunted there for a while while living east of Thunder Bay, I would recommend the Pass lake area. Lots of deer. Also Dorian was very good with lots of deer and wasn't very hard to get permission to hunt some of the farms, especially up by the fish hatchery. When you get out to Nipigon, the deer get a litlle more sparse but with such a lenghty rifle season, you should do great. I shot a large buck, just north of Nipigon on Hwy#11 (actually netted 177 2/8, weighed on the scale in Nipigon at 250 lbs dressed).

Be careful around Pass Lake though, there is the Sleeping Giant Provincial Park which is a no hunting zone. Which is pretty much why there are just so many damn deer there.
