So, I have a rare opportunity to hunt deer on some private land on a small island off Vancouver Island BC. It is located in an area where you are not allowed to hunt with anything single projectile. This leaves me with my Remington 870 Tactical. It's the only Shotgun i have...

Now it came with a Remington Tactical Choke, this is just a fancy looking cylinder choke, it has it's purpose, but I don't think it would be best suited for deer with triple000 or double00 buck shot

Basically my question is what choke would be best suited for this task?
I figured a full choke would be the way to go, is it??? If so, I can't find one anywhere on Vancouver Island, does anyone know where I can get the appropriate choke from???

Thank you

Steve

Almost any sporting goods store should have remington chokes on hand, maybe not Canadian tire or Wlmart but any place that specializes more in hunting gear.
As far as choke goes, when it comes to 00 and 000 buck usualy improved cylinder or light modified provide the best results for me, but the only way to know is try out differesnt loads with different chokes.

Italian, Reliable or StillWater Sports are all in the lower mainland and
either of the three are one the way to the southern or northern ferry terminal to start your hunting adventure.
Give them a call and see what they have.
BTW, Reliable is a site sponsor and there number is 604 874 4710

while your buying the choke , do not forget your Gulf Island Special Areas Permit too.

00 buck will drop any of the island deer dead in its tracks... If your close. (Under 30 yards). You won't really need a choke. Buy some ammo, shoot your gun at some paper and see how it paterns,

Partly what I have seen, partly what I have read, mod choke works good with buckshot. It might be overkill, but the 3" 10 pellet OOO buck is pretty powerful. Probably better to find a 15 pellet 3" OO buck though. Those deer aren't that big and more is probably better. .

I always preferred #1 buck as it was .30 caliber so you ended up with a few more pellets in a load.Never shot a deer twice even running at 60 yards. Twenty eight inch FC.

Get some buckshot and see how your gun patterns, then hunt accordingly. I have several shotguns and they all pattern differently from each other and with different brands of shells.
