As the title says, I'm wondering what I could use to try for deer using my 1866 Uberti Yellow Boy in 45LC
It would be close in work in brush.
I just like the idea of trying to take something with the old toggle action instead of the .30-06 I normally use for deer.
Any ideas?

if you can get some handloads I would use them with a 250gr JHP....... just keep your shots under 75 yds and you should do fine.

otherwise just use any .45 load you can find that is full power and either lead or a JHP.

I used my Marlin 1894CB in 45 Colt for hunting, I loaded 300gr XTP's with 24grs H110 and Win LP primers which gave me 12 in the tube and 1 in the chamber with excellent accuracy and about 1650fps velocity.

It was also drilled and tapped for a scope so I installed a Weaver base and a Leupold 1-4X Vari X 11 scope.

I had a lot of fun with this combo. I stopped shooting CAS so ended up selling it and replaced it with a S&W 629 44mag.

Should never of sold it... I still regret it.

The loads quoted above should not be used in your '66 replica or otherwise.....the Marlin '94 is a much diff. proposition and can take those healthy loads...When people quote these types of loads they should emphasize that they are meant for much diff. guns and purposes. The '66 or Henry action was designed for a short rimfire blackpowder ctg.(.44 Henry Flat) later changed to blackpowder centre fire.(either way it probably never went above 10,000cup) and now someone could mistakingly load it to 40,000 cup......tread lightly my friends!!

Sorry guys I was quoting my hunting data and should have emphasized what I posted may not be safe in the Yellow Boy.

Ben thanks for pointing this out..
