deer hunting with 223

winchester makes a 64gr load specifically for deer....

.223 is fine for deer when used in its element and within its effective range and picking your shots....... before 1890 they used black powder for everything and it is a lot more weaker then a .223 will ever be.

I'd take an original 45-70-405 equivalent - 405gr @ ~1400fps - for deer over a .223 any day.

that is into the cartridge era..... I was thinking back to when it was .36 balls and black powder or smaller.... energy levels are way under what a .223 64gr Winchester silver tip would do.

thier are proper bullets made for deer hunting..... ethical hunters will choose thier shot with care, same as a BP or Bow hunter.

.223 is a viable deer cartridge..... get over it guys,

I don't want to look at the gun in my hand and tell myself it's a viable weapon for the hunt I'm on. I prefer not to question it's "viability" and just know it Will do the job if I do mine!

.223 will do the the job if you do yours..... same with a .338 win mag, poor shot placement with either and your chasing a blood trail.

and yes I know what your going to say... well the ,338 will let him bleed out faster, maybe, maybe not...

Just a point here gang. most of our Inuit freinds like 22 CF's for things like caribou and polar bear. Now there situation is quite unique, but an interesting point none the same.
Know of one fellow doing marvilous work on caribou with a 17HMR. Go figure.
Not advocating, just posting some info.
have fun.
