It's been years since I hunted with a 308, 44 actually, but what I remember is this:
I was in the market for a rifle and borrowed a Winchester Model 88 308 from my widowed former grade 2 teacher.
Not knowing what the difference was between 150 and 180 grain bullets, bullet type and all that at the time, I believe I was using 150 grain Imperial loads, but they could possibly have been some other odds and ends that came with the gun.
Anyway, I shot a couple small Vancouver Island blacktails with the 308 and there was so much severe meat damage that I returned the rifle to Mrs. Eckley and bought a 243. The problem could have been my foolishness too, it's been so long ago but maybe I was shooting through the shoulders. I just remember horrifying amounts of shattered bone and bloodshot meat.
I'd pay attention to what 45ACPKING says. He knows what he's talking about.
