Hello

I am about to go hunting with a muzzleloading for the first time. I have a T/C Omega .50 cal rifle, and am planning on using 200 grain Shockwave sabots from T/C.

I am wondering now if I can use the 200 grain, or if I should pick up some 250for taking down a whitetail.

Thanks for any advice.

200 grain is plenty, that is what I use in my Encore and also used previously in my Knight Wolverine. Edited: meant Encore not Omega is what I own.

I also use 777 .In the Knight I used 2 pellets(100gr total) which worked well, and would be fine in the Omega also. I use 3 pellets(150gr total) in my Encore but is not necessary. My hunting partner has an Omega and he uses 2 pellets with good success.

alright thanks alot Grtwhthntr and Jay T.

I will be heading out with confidence in 8 days, I'll let you know the results.

I'm of the opinion that saboted .452 300gr are best for my deer hunting. I use XTP. The few deer I've shot with my 50cal Knight Wolverine were hit well - broadside at 40 yds thru the chest - but the bullets still didn't exit. So lighter bullets are not in my plans.

I also shoot various 300s in my Savage and this year have some .458" Barnes originals to try with MMP orange sabots.

I usually use "crushed rib" sabots which are a dream to use with .452" bullets and even can be used in a pinch for .458" bullets.

I suggest you go out and put 15 or more shots through it before you go hunting. It might take a bit for the loads to settle in. I found mine were sporadic until I had 20 shots though the barrel...

i use 3 777 mag's and Barnes Spit-Fire TMZ 250g .451. good for 250-300 yard max for deer.

DO NOT use 3 777 mag's in a gun that is not made for it. (i got the encore endeavor)

soooo...what kinda groups might one get with the savage that shoots smokeless or some other decent guns?

ive been pondering the idea if its worth it to switch to a muzzle loader when my 870 with rifled barrel makes 3-4" groups at 125 yards.

ML loads

My daughter is 12 and she uses: a Traditions Pursuit Pro: 180 grain Precision QT and 100 grains of 777 pellets...no recoil & smokin Mule deer or White tail load for recoil shy shooters and children...her first doe today at 193 yds +/- 2 yds...pass through ribs/lungs/ribs...wow...not sure how fast the load is but it sure lights matches on a bench and creates a world of hurt for any deer in the area...lol

My wife Traditions Pursuit Pro: 240 grain Barnes TMZ w/ 100 grs 777...took a Mule deer doe this AM at 150 yds. With a complete pass through...no worries here...Chrony'd at 1920 ft/s at muzzle

Mine: TC Omega: 285 grn Barnes MZ w/ 100 grs 777...taken MANY deer..but I think I may try the Precision bullets wow...

hope this helps...

Cheers
