Deer in the Charlottes (haida Gwaii)

Just finished re-reading an old article about hunting Blacktail deer on the island, as well as the pieces about the Federal govt hiring "exterminators" from New Zealand to do population control on the deer.
So..... If there are any Gunnutz on the island....
What impact has the cull had on the local population of deer?
 
haven't read those articles and I don't live in haida gwaii but i have hunted there and there was plenty of deer. It kinda reminded me of rabbit hunting the way they popped up as we drove around and hiked around. We went in beginning of november and despite some very crazy weather, it was a really fun trip, would do it again.
carverk , who used to hang out here at times, is from the gwaii but he hasn't been around these parts on CGN since he posted last year about going on some epic grizzly bear hunt in a not so easy to get to chunk of BC. I have not heard from him since..... though we kept in fairly regular contact and hunted elsewhere together over the years. His email is innactive and even I am having a difficult time tracking him down.

not sure if there are any other members from haida gwaii but there was a couple from Rupert who probably have an idea on the deer.
 
From what I hear the cull didn’t work to well. It was on an island of the coast of the big island. Eventually more deer just swam over.

Sure hope carverk is okay, he's a real individual.
 
The cull was done on two smaller islands.
Not the Haida Gwaii.
The deer are deep in the woods and not as easily hunted as they once where.
Reynolds sound is/was a popular area to hunt.
You coming out West for a visit ?

I've been trying to reach his sister but it's a busy time for them. I didn't go moose hunting up that way or I would have popped in on her but I'll give them a ring after hunting season dies down.

as for hunting the gwaii , we went out of old masset and had to wing it because carverk was stuck in Van and didn't end up meeting up with us. So we bumbled about and hunted the beaches and forest of the north east tip and it was an incredible experience. We had no troubles finding more deer than we could get shots at LOL High on my must do again list and hopefully next time it is with carverk. Also experienced the craziest storm I've ever seen and felt while on that hunting trip..... raw mother nature at her finest is what the Gwaii is. Glad I got that one off my bucket list :)
