Deer in the water

I was surprised I did not take out the heart. The cavity was right full of blood but I did not check the vitals for damage. The exit was quite low as I was in a high tree stand and the deer was only at 20 yards. I was using a Excaliber crossbow, a carbon arrow and a 100 grn 3 blade broad head with a chisel point. The deer did not go very far from where I jumped it to where it entered the river. Sometimes it is surprising how tough some deer are. I hunt only with archery or black powder so I do not get the shock value of a high power.

Nice deer RJA...... My last black powder shot was from the ground and I was actually shooting upwards at the deer as it was walking up a ridgeline..... it caught part of the front shoulder on the way out an dlifted the deer abut 2 feet off the ground.... don't underestimate those black powder rifles!

Same thing happened with the famous "Jordon " buck shot with a 25-20 Win 92 and made it into a river ,later found downstream caught up in some driftwood.Harold
