Any body have a deer load they would recomend the a .243.

I picked up a Remington 700 in .243 last week (should know better then to stop at the gunshop on the way to the range:D) and need to start working on a load. This will be mostly short range shots. 100 yards on the outside.

This will be my backup gun this year.

I just made a load for my 243 rem 788. Used 100gr Sierra Sp and 37 gr 4350.

Used 4350 becasue it is slow and I happen to have a lot of it on hand.

Friend used a similar laod on a deer. very effective.

Thanks

I ordered some Seirra's last Monday AM from Wholsale. They called this afternoon to tell me the neck size die wasn't in stock. I also ordered some Hornady and Speer.

What primers did you use?

you'll want a good bullet that will hold together at the high velocity of shooting under 100 yards

I'd go with a Barnes 85 grain TSX or a Nosler 95/100 grain Partition

The Rem 700 has a rifling twist of 1 in 9.125". It'll prefer bullets weight 80 grains and up. Speer 105 grain SP's with IMR4350 should both shoot well out of your rifle and drop a deer with no fuss. They practically turn a ground hog inside out too.

X2! I have shot a lot of deer with the 6mm Remington and 95/100 Partitions. These have proven their worth, close in or far out. The TSX will work great also, and no fear of disintegration with close up shots. Regards, Eagleye.
