I took my son out hunting two days ago. We found a nice spot among some birch that had a pretty good game trail with recent sign running close by. The ground was covered in leaves so I cleared out a circle with my boot so my son and I could sit there and not be crunching leaves. We didn't manage to see anything except for a fox. Yesterday went for a quick walk back to the same spot and not more than 10 yards away from where I had cleared away the leaves was a fresh scrape. I guess he didn't like the scrape I had made and decided to make one of his own. I figured he would have caught my scent in my scrape and let things be. So I cleared my scrape out again and then made another one about 25 yards away along the trail. I'll be out this afternoon to see if I can catch him coming through. BTW, we did not have any cover scent or doe scent on.

Try out some doe in estrus scent while the rut is on. It worked like magic for me this year. I used two different brands and freshened them up every time I went to my stand. I screwed around with a variety of calls and a rattle bag without success. The scent is what brought them in. Got a nice buck opening day of the shotgun season that came in running towards the scent wicks.

Good Luck!!!
