This season went quickly from one of my best to hardest. I started deer hunting 1 Sept and passed on many big mule deer and whitetail bucks during archery and muzzle loader. The early season was great, lots of big mature bucks and I still had all the time in the world to hunt, or so I thought. I ended up leaving for work at the last minute for 2 weeks in October then was scheduled on a 3 week course for work which left me with a handful of evenings and two weekends to hunt for the rest of the season. Early November we were hit with a huge snow storm here in Sask. I lost access to most of my hunting spots due to huge snowdrifts (cannot carry a rifle on ATV/snowmobile in the zones I hunt). Walking through the snow, even with snowshoes, made everything harder. My "best" season in terms of opportunities at big mule deer and whitetails quickly turned to poo when work plans and the weather changed. I ended up shooting bucks that were much smaller than what I had passed on earlier in the season. All things considered, I've never worked so hard to notch my tags and the pack out were by far the hardest also. All and all, still a very successful season in my book.
