Deer still sporting antlers?

Was over at a buddies place after dinner watching some u-tube crazies doing some white water jet boating.
Started talking about critters that come through around here Kamloops east side flats. I had a big five point muley in my front yard. At first I though someone stuck a decoy out there. I tried to get a picture through the window. Dummy me, flash kicked back.
Anyways, back to my buddies saga.....he had a whitetail in his front yard the night before last and the buck was still wearing his four point antlers.
I thought they would have fallen off by now?
By the time he found his camera, the whitetail mosied away.

I saw a roadkill buck this morning while driving my kids to swimming. He was still sporting his antlers. I stopped to see if I could pull the antlers off. No such luck. By the time I returned, somone had taken the whole carcass.
 
I saw two mulies this week both had their antlers.I was always told if it was a hard winter they would lose their antlers early,obviously untrue as this winter has been brutal, cold weather and deep snow.
 
There's a lot of variation. We saw a fairly ordinary 4 point once, still sporting his antlers on opening day of the fishing season. That would be the first Saturday in May. Who knows if they were ever going to fall off?

My son shot a November mulie that was still in velvet this year. A friend took a pretty nice WT in velvet a little later in the year several years ago. There are probably a lot of reasons why a buck would fall outside the expected norm.
 
found my first sheds jan 2nd. Seen a little 6 point with antlers the other day. I was told it a buck will keep his headgear longer if he doesn't bred any does that fall? any truth to that?
 
I was driveing through Willams Lake may day weekend and seen a herd of deer, one little buck still had last years antlers and the five other bucks had velvet nubs
 
Same here in SK. saw some bucks today on the way to Saskatoon, still had antlers. A biologist told me it depended on nutrition and weather. But they also use to claim that whitetail and mule deer wouldn`t cross breed.
 
i'm in Southern Ontario and my camera shows that all the bucks have dropped. Did some reading and White Tails drop antlers when there are no more females in estrus. So the bucks keeping their racks actually depends on the doe's
