Not really sure.
Well It was a beautiful crisp day today, I was sitting in my blind with my SKS about 100 yards from my apple trees. Finaly along comes a nice sized Buck, whitetail. He looks to be nice and muscular and had 4 points maybe 5 if there were some small ones.

Anyway I raise my gun, line up a nice shot, click pop...... what the hell.

I am using PMC 125 grainers..... this cartridge had no powder in it!!! only a primer. Obviously the bullet got lodge about 3/8s of an inch into the barrel and I had to let the buck go. :runaway:

heres the evidence, talk about hard to get out.

Get ahold of PMC, that is a major problem, too bad about missing that deer but lucky you did not chamber another one.

a real major problem is if the powder from that round is stacked on another charge in a different round. That sucks though, i would be seriously pissed with PMC if that was my situation. Time to call and chew.

I handload. :)

Anyways, you can shake the rounds that remain and you should be able to hear the powder inside the case - no sound, no powder.

Yeah It was lucky that I didnt chamber another round. I was going to but then I was like wait a minute I better check, opened the bolt and tilted the gun into the sunlight, sure enough could see the back end of the round just a little ways in. Anyway I will see what I can do about contacting PMC, although I bought these boxes about a year and a half ago.

Maybe I should get into handloading soon :).

That is scary stuff, sure glad to hear that you didn't get hurt :). I think that the best revenge would be to reload your own.

Wow! You were LUCKY!!! I think most would have racked the gun and tried to fire the second round, AND BLEW THE GUN UP!!!

Kudos to you for having the presence of mind to check!!! Safety first, ALWAYS!!!

Cheers
Jay

no deer deserves to get shot with a SKS round
I havent had any problems with my Yugo. Considering it is still in mint condition and the barrel is as shiney as a mirror its accuracte enough to get the job done.
I rarely hunt exceeding 100 yards and with 2450 fps and about 2000 ft/lbs of kinetic energy from the muzzel it has more then enough stopping power to get the job done especialy since it is a .30 caliber round with enough weight to slow its energy bleeding.

I will continue to use my M59 as it gets the job done good enough for me and is a very reliable sturdy rifle that is extremely easy to maintain and I don't care if it gets dirty in the bush.

So you use what firearm and caliber you want, and I will do the same considering the 7.62x39mm cartridge is perfectly legal to do so.
