Defense ammunition - .45ACP?

"Stopping power is a myth."

"If it's a .45 you don't need fancy ammo."

Obviously stopping power isn't a technically correct term. A poorly placed shot, regardless of caliber, will do little good. But I'd rather a well placed .45acp hitting my target than a well placed 9mm.
And I'd rather a well placed expanding projectile than a well placed ball projectile.

Henry at Budget Shooter Supply usually has Speer GDHP projectiles 230 grain in stock .. why pay $ 40.00 for 20 factory rounds ( that may include partial/all online shipping ) when you can roll your own for less than a tenth of that cost, and have fun working up your load ....

P&D has a great selection of defense ammo, i just bought a bunch of speer gold dots 124g +P from them. Most dont know cause they have a ####ty website where you cant see the great selection they have.

Semi-automatic, military-style, assault crossbows have existed for a thousand years in China. Well, actually a mag fed bolt action. Very cool things, so they are. An arrow drops from the mag and is fired with every pull of the bolt. Used from castle walls, not PBI troopies. There's no such thing as an assault crossbow. They're battle bows. snicker.
A well place shot with any bullet out if either a .45 or 9mm will do nicely. You're right about Ball vs an expanding bullet. Mind you, a cast bullet will expand every time it hits something hard regardless of velocity. A JHP needs specific velocities to reliably expand. However, meat hit by a ball round, cast bullet or JHP is still damaged.
The myth of stopping power comes from U.S. gun rags and faulty tests done long before any of us were gleams.
And the fact remains that if you ever use a firearm for self-defence, you will be arrested, lose your firearms and licences.

I'm sorry, but this comment is daft as if gets.

Less explaining to do after shooting someone with ball ammo vs HP? You're joking, right? You're screwed either way, bud.

And ball ammunition is likely to over penetrate and poses a risk to family and neighbors. Sure, ball will put a hurt on someone, but if the object is to stop a threat, why wouldn't you want the absolute best in a life and death situation?

Thanks for answering a question I didn't ask, though.

St Peter: What happened son?
Me: I died sir - but at least I used the ammo least likely to get me thrown in a Canadian prison.
