In ontario a bear hunter must wear orange while hunting unless in a "treestand". I'm trying to find out what counts as a treestand. Is setting up on a pile of large boulders sitting on a small stump a treestand or does it has to have a seat fastened to a tree. Also how high must it be? I've treid calling the ministry and emailing them and I'm getting different answers from the few replies I get

I was told while bear hunting if in a ground blind you must still wear the orange but our ministry is so ####ed up they won't put anything in writing. I recently purchased a ontario wolf tag and they tried to charge me $263 because I wasn't a resident of the north

I would gather it must be attached in someway to a tree. Now whether a tree stand can also be a blind, I am not sure. I imagine there must be some elevation to qualify.

This is why the gov't thinks we are too stupid to use our own judgement and common sense.

A treestand, is a treestand (elevated position in a tree, would make sense to me). Not a pile of rocks, or a tree stump. Even if you are hunting from a "treestand" you still need to have Blaze orange with you, to wear while on the ground to and from your treestand.

Agreed... For the legalities of it I am sure that whatever stand you are in must in some way be attached off of the ground to a tree.... Strictly by the wording i'm sure they could get you if you were not wearing orange in a ground blind.

Wonder if an elevated Box Blind would count? It’s elevated off the ground but not attached to a tree. Could this be like the update they did to the Ontario regulations that for small game? It used to be 22 calibre rim-fire rifle chambered in 22 short, 22 long, or 22 LR. They have changed the regulation to rifle of muzzle energy less than 400 foot pounds. I guess this was to include the 22 magnum and 17 calibre rim-fires. But would it now include center fire with muzzle energy less than 400 foot pounds?

Would this count?
